Project Name: Cleveland Hopkins Airport Garage No. 2
City: Cleveland
State: Ohio
Client: Cleveland Hopkins Interntional Airport

Features: 3,940-car spaces on five supported levels plus grade with three enclosed people mover bridges and one roadway fly-over bridge entrance into the garage.

Description: DESMAN served as the Structural Engineer of Record for a new 3,940 space, five level parking garage at CHIA. The structural frame consists of cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete, built over an existing surface parking lot and situated between the existing garage No. 1 and the main terminal. The structure was designed and constructed in two phases to minimize loss of parking revenues. Several new combined pedestrian/moving walkway bridges connect the existing garage (1 bridge) and the new garage to the existing terminal (2 bridges). A moving walkway serves as a spine between both halves of the garage. A new flyover bridge connects the enplanement level (upper) roadway in front of the existing terminal to the south end of the garage. Long-term durability features include the use of a silane sealer on all supported floor surfaces; epoxy coated rebar; encapsulated post-tensioning system; and a concrete mix design featuring ground granulated blast furnace slag to densify the concrete. DESMAN worked closely during the design with the Architect of Record and Parking Consultant, both of which firms were Cleveland based.
