Oakwood Southeast Parking Facility at Oakwood Hospital
Oakwood Southeast Parking Facility at Oakwood Hospital

Type: Health Care
Project Name: Oakwood Southeast Parking Facility at Oakwood Hospital
City: Dearborn
State: MI
Client: Oakwood Healthcare, Inc.

Features: 652-car spaces on 3 levels.

Description: The Oakwood Hospital Southeast Parking Facility located in Dearborn, Michigan is constructed to accommodate daily, hourly and overnight parkers composed primarily of Hospital employees and Doctors. The three-bay wide precast parking structure contains approximately 652 cars on three levels. The facility integrates a single helix design with two-way traffic in three bays. The ramping bay is at the interior of the facility maintaining level or flat bays at all four elevations. Two corners of the structure handle all of the vertical pedestrian circulation with exit stairs on the southwest corner of the structure and an elevator / stair tower on the north east corner of the facility. Safety features include a single glass backed hydraulic elevator, glazed stair towers, emergency phones on each level and open stair and elevator lobbies. An electrical room and elevator machine room are located on the first level. The precast façade incorporates a revealed grid pattern to accentuate the linear design features of the stair/elevator towers along with the remainder of the facility. These patterned panels were site stained to complement the existing brick color found in the nearby hospital. The remaining structural precast façade spandrel panels were sand blasted by the pre-caster to obtain an even textured surface throughout. DESMAN Associates was the Architect and Structural Engineer of Record and Parking Consultant with Detroit-based Architect, SSOE who served as Master Architects for the project as well as MEP Engineers. Chicago-based HOK served as consulting design architect for the facade.
