Riverside Regional Medical Center Parking Deck 1
Riverside Regional Medical Center Parking Deck 1

Type: Health Care
Project Name: Riverside Regional Medical Center Parking Deck 1
City: Neport News
State: VA
Client: Riverside Regional Medical Center

Features: 636-space, four level parking structure

Description: Sited and designed to serve as a background building serving employee parkers, this parking structure consists of two flat bays and a single helix ramping system on the exterior bay. The facility’s height was set to ensure the deck’s penthouses would be screened from the public by an adjacent building. The exterior architecture was detailed to emulate the aesthetic developed as part of the campus’s overall modernization program that also included new surgical suites, emergency department, and bed tower expansion. Components incorporated included peaked roofs with slate shingles, metal colors, and pre-cast tint. After extensive review of structural system options that included site visits with the owner to nearby parking facilities, pre-cast, pre-stressed concrete was chosen for the superstructure and the exterior skin. The access control system gives the medical center the ability to monitor the identity of those parking in the facility. Active security components include emergency telephones, and pan/tilt/zoom cameras connected with the in-place security system. Passive security components include glass-backed elevators and open stair towers. DESMAN served as prime consultant, architect and structural engineer of record for the project.
