Type: Health Care
Project Name: Valentine Parking Facility at Metrohealth Medical Center City: Cleveland State: OH Client: MetroHealth Medical Center Features: 760-car space, three-bay wide parking structure on six supported levels plus grade. Description: The first of a pair of parking structures, the Valentine parking facility is a 760-car parking structure (262,000 square feet of parking area) located on the MetroHealth Medical Center Campus at the intersection of Scranton Road and Valentine Avenue. The structural frame is post-tensioned, cast-in-place concrete. The exterior façade has a combination of punched openings and unglazed metallic framing to permit natural ventilation. The façade was designed to be in harmony with adjacent campus buildings and yet be a recognizable landmark. A full-length two story pedestrian arcade along Scranton acts as a “buffer zone” between the garage and street edge while providing pedestrian protection from inclement weather and a convenient waiting area for an existing bus stop. The facility was designed to help offset the parking deficit on the hospital campus, caused by current and future facilities expansion. The garage will be temporarily used for hospital employee parking until the sister project is completed. It will then be converted into visitor parking. Once completed, this pair of parking structures will flank the hospital’s grand entry on Valentine Avenue, in accordance with the Campus Masterplan. DESMAN is the Architect and Structural Engineer of Record. |
