Mount Prospect Village Hall Parking Ramp
Mount Prospect Village Hall Parking Ramp

Type: Municipal
Project Name: Mount Prospect Village Hall Parking Ramp
City: Mount Prospect
State: IL
Client: Village of Mount Prospect

Features: 385-car spaces on five levels total, one below grade.

Description: The Village of Mount Prospect Parking Ramp is designed to serve the planned Village Hall and the existing Mount Prospect Public Library. It will be centrally location between the Village Hall and Public Library and within the downtown area including close proximity to the Metra train station. Due to site constraints, the Parking facility will also serve as the entrance/exit to the open parking area under the Library. The two-bay wide split-level Precast structure contains approximately 385 cars on five levels of structured parking and will accommodate hourly, daily, special event, and long-term parkers composed primarily of Village Hall and Library staff and employees as well as visitors to both facilities. The parking facility incorporates a single helix design with two-way traffic in two bays of sloped parking with flat ends. The split-level design allows integration into a site that would otherwise be unable to accommodate multilevel parking due to its shortened footprint. The ability to park on the gradually sloping ramps helps to maximize efficiency. Safety features include glazed stair towers and open stair and elevator lobbies. Due to a portion of the lower level being a full level below grade, partial mechanical ventilation is required to allow positive air movement. An electrical room and mechanical pump room are located on the lower level. The ground level vehicular entry cycle was specifically designed to accommodate a Library book drop-off area for convenience. The ground level stair/elevator tower will allow direct access between the parking facility and Village Hall. The exterior façade incorporates a brick clad skin on the two ends facing the public way that will be applied over the Precast concrete structure. It utilizes a combination of modular units with limestone accents to mimic the design of the future adjacent Village Hall. Desman Associates is the Structural Engineer of Record and Parking Consultant with Chicago-based, DLK Architecture, Inc., serving as prime architect.
