Project Name: Raleigh-Durham International Airport City: Raleigh-Durham State: North Carolina Client: Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority Features: 1,000-car space, three-level, cast-in-place waffle slab system spanning to concrete joists and post-tensioned concrete girders. Description: The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority retained DESMAN to provide full scope engineering services for the assessment of this seven year old parking garage. Services provided included condition survey and concrete testing, condition evaluation, construction documents, cost estimating, bidding and on-site construction administration. The assignment involved evaluating the existing conditions of the parking garage and developing creative solutions for structural restoration and stopping water penetration in ways that will be long lasting and cost effective. During the condition survey phase, DESMAN conducted testing to determine such factors as depth of in place reinforcing steel, contamination levels in the concrete, concrete durability characteristics, sub-level delaminations and sealer effectiveness. Also as part of the services on this assignment, DESMAN developed a traffic plan and a two phase construction program to maintain a minimum of 50% operations in the facility at all times during the construction process. During construction, DESMAN provided administration services that ensured the contractor performed the work in accordance with the project documents, worked with the Airport and the Contractor to complete the project $300,000 below budget with no loss in overall performance of the repaired garage. |
