Project Name: raffic, Access and Parking Studies: Texas Medical Center, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, Rice University Collaborative Research Building
City: Houston
State: TX
Client: Texas Medical Center

Description: Over the past four years, Mr. Salzman has conducted several parking, access and traffic studies for Methodist Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital, two institutions of the Texas Medical Center (TMC), as well as for TMC as a whole. TMC is one of the largest health care campuses in the country, and transportation (traffic, access and parking) is a key component of the campus master plan.
As a result of the City of Houston’s proposal to provide light rail transit adjacent to the Medical Center, the TMC decided to hire Mr. Salzman to analyze the impacts on the Campus. The impacts included travel time, pedestrian and vehicular access and emergency vehicle access. The study resulted in significant improvements to the proposed design and improved vehicular and pedestrian flow.
Mr. Salzman analyzed a proposal that would create a new bridge and a new roadway by extending two streets near the Medical Center. The project involved detailed analysis of existing and projected traffic in, around and through the medical center with and without the proposed street extensions, as well as the effect of the new streets on TMC access and parking.
For Rice University’s Collaborative Research Building (Rice, M.D. Anderson Hospital, and Baylor University Medical School) Mr. Salzman analyzed the parking demand, traffic impact and neighborhood traffic management. DESMAN also provided parking consulting for the three level underground parking garage beneath the Collaborative Research building.
