Description: J.R. Thompson Plaza (State of Illinois Building-Chicago) is a multi-use commercial complex built in 1982 in downtown Chicago. The site consists of a 16-story commercial state office building with lower level arcade and auditorium and landscaped plaza featuring a Debuffy monument. DESMAN was retained to conduct a detailed condition survey of every paving stone in the plaza to locate broken and uneven pavement surfaces. The designated areas of the granite and marble paving system were removed down to the setting slab and replaced with a new leveling bed, suitable marble and granite pavers were reset. Broken pavers were replaced with pavers to match the size, color and texture of the four existing types of stone. DESMAN provided full A/E services, including contract documents, site observation and close out procedures for the designated restoration of the plaza.
