CarrAmerica Parking Expansion at Unisys Building
CarrAmerica Parking Expansion at Unisys Building

Type: Corporate
Project Name: CarrAmerica Parking Expansion at Unisys Building
City: Lombard
State: IL
Client: CarrAmerica
Features: 354-car space, two bay wide parking structure expansion on five supported levels plus grade.
Description: A 354-car structure will be built to expand an existing structure, to meet the increasing needs of the tenants (111,000 square feet) located adjacent to the Unisys building at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Butterfield Road in Lombard, Illinois along I-88. Constructed of pre-cast concrete, the five supported levels will have horizontal traffic surfaces. Exterior walls are open pre-cast concrete spandrels to permit natural ventilation.
This facility will expand the parking available to the tenants of the Unisys building. The existing site, already a planned development, needed relief from several zoning requirements in order for the structure to be built. This was facilitated through the use of renderings that illustrated the impact of the new facility on the adjacent properties. The façade was designed to blend with the existing structure of both the parking and office towers. This was accomplished using an exposed aggregate in the spandrels and stair towers that is identical to the existing. The green glass used in the stair towers is also a compliment to the Unisys Building façade.
