Project Name: LINCOLN CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS City: New York State: New York Client: The Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. Features: Plaza area and reflecting pools; structurally supported plaza constructed of cast-in-place concrete waffle slab design with waterproofing membrane system. Description: The Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City consists of four buildings and a plaza area with planters, reflecting pools, fountains and statues. The complex was constructed in various phases through the 1960?s. The structurally supported plaza is constructed of a cast-in-place concrete waffle slab design with a waterproofing membrane system. The pedestrian plaza area and steps are topped with a combination of granite and travertine paver system. The plaza and sub-plaza levels were in need of selective repairs, future protection, and preventive maintenance. DESMAN Associates conducted a thorough engineering assessment of the plaza and sub-plaza levels including the planters, reflecting pools and fountains. Several methods of repair along with their associated cost, alternative repairs and life expectancy were presented to the owner and management. The decision was made to selectively rehabilitate the plaza and sub-plaza levels along with various architectural, structural and mechanical upgrades. DESMAN has prepared the design documents, which include the replacement of the reflecting pool, repair of expansion joints and a number of architectural upgrades to the plaza and sub-plaza levels such as the Columbus Avenue stairs, building entrances, lighting, mechanical equipment and the removal and replacement of a statue. |
