Description: DESMAN Associates was retained to perform a traffic impact analysis for the proposed parking structure expansion at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. The proposed parking structure expansion is located at the intersection of 93rd and Chester Ave. adjacent to the existing parking structure. The parking facility was expanded from 1300 spaces to 2400 spaces, which is an addition of 1100 spaces. Existing traffic conditions were determined based on traffic counts of intersections adjacent to the proposed site as well as a field reconnaissance which detailed existing traffic characteristics. Future morning and evening peak-hour site generated traffic volumes were calculated based on the size of the expansion and ingress/egress counts of existing Cleveland Clinic parking garages. It was determined whether the garage expansion would have any adverse effects on the surrounding street network. Suggestions and recommendations were provided based on the results of the analysis.
DESMAN Associates also performed a traffic impact analysis for the proposed 89th Street parking structure at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. The proposed parking structure is to be located between the intersections of 86th St. / Euclid Ave. and 89th St. / Carnegie Ave. The 89th Street parking structure will contain approximately 4000 spaces and it is going to replace an existing 1000 space parking lot. Existing traffic counts adjacent to the site were used for the analysis. A directional distribution was estimated based on existing travel patterns. The future peak hour traffic volumes were determined based on existing trip generation rates of visitor and employee parking structures at Cleveland Clinic. An analysis of the current geometrics of the intersections surrounding the proposed parking structure was conducted to determine if the adjacent street geometrics are sufficient to support future traffic volumes generated by the proposed parking structure.
For these traffic studies at Cleveland Clinic counts were taken of vehicles entering and exiting the parking structure located at 100th and Cedar and at 105th and Wilbur from 7:00 A.M. to 9:00 A.M. and from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Entry and exit counts were also taken at the JJ Garage during the peak hours. This data has allowed DESMAN to calculate the trip generation rates for two parking structures affiliated with Cleveland Clinic. These trip generation rates for Cleveland Clinic provide DESMAN with an understanding of the traffic patterns of a large health care facility in Cleveland, Ohio.
