University of Nevada at Las Vegas Tropicana Garage
University of Nevada at Las Vegas Tropicana Garage

Type: Higher Education
Project Name: University of Nevada at Las Vegas Tropicana Garage
City: Las Vegas
State: NV
Client: University of Nevada at Las Vegas

Features: 1,000 car spaces on 4 levels with a bus waiting area for the UNLV shuttle. Additional provisions were made to allow the inclusion of a future transit center to the north.
Description: The Tropicana Parking Structure has been designed to accommodate hourly, daily, special event, and long-term parkers composed primarily of University faculty, staff and employees. It has been specially designed to accommodate event patrons attending the Thomas & Mack Auditorium with special ramping features to allow for complete exiting of the facility within thirty minutes.
This unique multi-story structure is located west of the Recreation and Wellness Center and south of the Thomas & Mack Center. The garage features four levels, each four bays wide. It is a 1000-car cast-in-place deck and is expandable to 2,000 spaces horizontally.
Safety features include four emergency assistance systems on each level, accommodations for security cameras, and an open design that allows for visibility in stair towers, elevator lobbies, and parking bays.
As sustainability and green solutions are very important to both UNLV faculty and staff members, the deck is being built to meet LEED design standards, and the design team has made every effort to ensure minimal environmental impact. DESMAN Associates is the Structural Engineer of Record and Parking Consultant for this project.
