Features: 4,500-car space, six-bay wide parking structure (approximately 1,200,000 square feet of supported slab area) on ten levels with cast-in-place, post-tensioned button-head, multi-wire system concrete slab/beams.

Description: This 20-year old, freestanding double-helix self-park facility is the second largest parking structure in the State of Illinois. The facility is entirely operated as a self-park facility for outpatients, visitors, physicians, staff and students of the Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke?s Medical Center and Rush University. Currently the parking facility has six separate entrances and a spiral helix ramp structure for vehicular egress. The structural system of the garage consists of post-tensioned cast-in-place concrete slabs (light weight and normal weight) supported by post-tensioned concrete beams. Conventionally reinforced, cast-in-place concrete columns support the beams. Extensive deterioration of the concrete and post-tensioning systems of the parking structure led to initiate the multi-million dollar, multi-phased restoration program.

DESMAN conducted a condition appraisal of the parking facility during 1995 and developed a comprehensive restoration program/recommendation. The client for the preparation of bid/construction documents and construction administration services retained DESMAN since the inception of the restoration project. In addition to structural repairs, DESMAN redesigned the functional vehicular traffic flow system to facilitate separation of various user group combinations.
