Milwaukee, WI
Type: Restoration - Garage
Project Name: Sinai Samaritan Medical Center City: Milwaukee State: Wisconsin Client: Sinai Samaritan Medical Center Features: 630-car space, six level, stand-alone cast-in-place post-tensioned beam and slab system garage located adjacent to Sinai Samaritan Medical Center Complex. Description: Officials at this urban medical center were faced with the potential loss of parking spaces due to deterioration of the post-tensioning system in this 21-year old structure. At the same time, a new addition would be opening on the campus, actually increasing the demand for parking. An innovative restoration program was developed that addressed repairs to the structural system, while minimizing the likelihood of future deterioration. At the same time, the structure would remain open to serve the parking needs of the medical center. The project team developed a unique repair technique that replaced damaged post-tensioning strands but avoided the cost of complete demolition. In all, over 300 post-tensioning strands were repaired or replaced. Drainage improvements were made, expansion joint seals were replaced and an elastomeric membrane was installed over 150,000 square feet of the supported slabs as a permanent barrier against corrosive elements. |
