ACF Parking Facility
University of Rochester

Type: Higher Education
Project Name: ACF Parking Facility
City: Rochester
State: New York
Client: University of Rochester

Features: 1,250-car, seven level parking garage cast-in-place, post-tensioned structure with epoxy coated rebar.

Description: The Ambulatory Care Facility (ACF) parking facility located in Rochester, New York is a six level open parking structure with total parking for 1,250 vehicles. There are two direct pedestrian walkways to the ACF building and main hospital from the garage elevator lobbies, one at ground level and one at the first supported level. The parking facility occupies an area of approximately 223’ x 295’ and serves hospital staff and visitor user groups for both the adjacent ACF and the remaining Strong Memorial Hospital complex.

The facility’s structural system consists of cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete construction. A unique “Double ‘O’” ramping system was employed whereby up and down cycles are provided via two-bay wide ramps, thus allowing patrons to view twice as many car spaces than they would normally see on a traditional single or double helix system. Vehicle access to the facility is provided at three locations: two at the ground level & one at the 1st supported level. The upper two levels of the facility are utilized as staff parking with restricted access via key cards.

Pedestrian circulation is provided by four stair towers; one in combination with an elevator ban consisting of three electric traction elevators located in the southwest corner. There is a 1,300 square foot parking manager’s office with restroom facilities located on the ground level. Workroom, storage rooms and mechanical rooms are also located on the ground level. A clear, water-repellant penetrating sealer was applied to concrete decks.

Architectural finished include brick veneer parapets and column covers; painted cast-in-place concrete parapets; glass and aluminum curtain wall system at the stairs and elevator lobby; standing seam metal roof system at the H.C. walkway canopy and decorative metal security grilles around the perimeter of the facility at the lower level. DESMAN is the Architect and Structural Engineer of Record and Parking Consultant.
