Transportation (Traffic) Impact Studies
DESMAN personnel have prepared numerous traffic impact studies for a wide variety of land-uses including commercial, shopping centers, life-style centers residential, health care, sport and other venues, mixed-use, multi-modal and airports. These studies have been conducted for municipalities, authorities, institutions and developers throughout the U.S. Many of these studies include multi-modal analysis as part of urban/suburban developments. When there are complex development programs DESMAN provides comprehensive alternatives analysis, using up to date traffic engineering tools, to ensure that all possible access and circulation options are evaluated.
DESMAN traffic engineering capabilities provide projections of future traffic levels and when warranted the determination of cost effective transportation improvements, and travel demand management strategies required to mitigate any negative impacts. DESMAN personnel work closely with reviewing public agencies to ensure that these studies meet applicable local guidelines.
Airport Landside Plans
DESMAN has worked directly for airports as prime consultants and as sub-consultants to other firms including airport program managers and construction managers. DESMAN personnel understand the symbiotic relationships between the landside, terminal and airside elements at airports and how the operations of one can affect the others. We are well versed with departure and arrival processes and its direct impact on terminal curb flow, vehicle access and circulation, public parking and commercial vehicle operations.
Because of our knowledge of many domestic and international airports we understand the primary landside concerns of airport managers and the sometimes financial constraints that may limit near term capital improvement programs and as such we provide creative and innovative solutions plans, designs and programs that can be readily implemented. Similarly we understand that longer-range plans may need to be flexible and may require implementation by phase given the dynamics of the airline industry.
Campus Transportation Master Plans
DESMAN understands the very special nature of campuses associated with health care and higher education land-uses. We work closely with campus planners and facility planners and managers in the development of transportation and parking components of master plans that consider all stake holders and transport modes. Our comprehensive quantitative analyses and experience result in well balanced plans that are realistic and can be implemented in phases if necessary.
Multi-Modal Facilities Transportation Plans
The integration of two or more types of transport modes at a single location requires comprehensive knowledge and experience on their interaction for optimal design. Of particular concern is of vehicle access and circulation from the adjacent street and highway systems and how to provide pedestrian links between the modes. DESMAN provides assistance in defining programmatic requirements for each transport mode, determining the most efficient pedestrian and vehicle access and circulation, and providing the quantitative analysis that supports the resultant design.
Travel Demand Management Strategies and Programs
DESMAN is well versed in the design of travel characteristic surveys and the associated compilation and stratification of data that provide the basis for the development of travel demand management strategies and programs. These are typically implemented to reduce the dependency on single occupied automobiles and provide realistic alternatives for a variety of land-uses through other types of transport and through ride sharing. We have employed the latest tools in our including web-based interface programs that allow for the response of survey questionnaires and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping.
