Summary

  • PreFlight Phoenix provides off airport parking for travelers near Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix, AZ.  The existing parking operation is being significantly expanded and upgraded with two new parking garages. The East garage contains 466 parking spaces on three levels and the West garage 906 spaces on three levels. An internal ramping system is located in the West garage for better performance during phased construction. Its location will allow for continued operation during construction phases and maximize the parking spaces available.  There are an additional 696 on-site surface parking spaces for a grand total of 2,068 spaces.

Both parking garages have a central elevator core with a shuttle pick up area on the ground level. The facility operates 24 hours a day and free shuttle bus service is provided to all airport terminals every four to six minutes. The larger West garage contains a building on the ground level with offices and a break room for employees and a large lobby for travelers with a customer service desk, businees center, refreshment center, vending machines, boarding pass and charging station, restrooms, and parking pay station.

The structural system for the parking structures is precast concrete (PCC). The double tees will be field-topped and supported by a combination of PCC stitch wall and columns/inverted T-beams on the interior column line and PCC columns and spandrels on the exterior. The exterior facade is comprised of architectural load bearing spandrel panels and architectural precast panels at the front façade, which serve as backdrop for illuminated signage visible from 44th Street. The parking garages are classified as open and naturally ventilated.

Parking control equipment is located on each level allowing customers to recode their tickets for the varying pricing of each zone. Premium covered parking is conveniently located on the ground level, followed by mid-priced parking on the 2nd level, followed by discounted parking on the uncovered roof level and surface parking lot.
