100,000 SF addition to the existing Museum of Art Parking Garage

Summary

DESMAN is the Architect and Structural Engineer for a 100,000 SF addition to the existing Museum of Art Parking Garage. The deck addition consists of three new levels tied into the existing structure. Included in the 100,000 square feet is a 15,000 square foot, 53-car addition above the 17-year old existing structure. The new structure was required to match existing architectural concrete elements. The east addition was built into an existing hill utilizing a 2.5-story retaining wall to mask the structure from view. A tunnel extension was utilized to connect the garage to an underground entrance, and a new elevator was provided.

*Originally designed as a design-build project, concern over budget prompted the owner to allow short-listed bidders to also submit a Design/Build proposal as an alternative option. Donley’s design was selected by the owner, and the final Design/Build cost of the project was $1.2 million lower than the original hard bid design. The contract value was increased through approved change orders (added scope)
