Summary
This 9 level highly articulated parking structure provides parking for 1,200 Hartford Hospital Employees and neighborhood parkers with special passes. The facility is connected on an upper floor to an adjacent hospital building by an overhead pedestrian bridge / walkway system which will eventually be extended to link all the hospital existing and future buildings together.
The exercise facility is adjacent to the main vehicular entry / exit and is clad in a curtain wall system on the front and side elevations. White three dimensional precast panels enliven the exterior façade complimenting the array of metal screening and terra cotta colored perforated metal panels.
DESMAN has been providing professional services to Hartford Hospital for over 20 years in planning design, and maintaining its’ parking expansion, system and structures. On this assignment DESMAN served as Architect and Engineer of Record, consulting with Perkins & Will who developed the exterior façade design. DESMAN was involved with development of the initial site plan, municipal approval process, certificate of need application, and worked with the Owner’s agent Balford Concord participating in the selection of the construction entity Downes Construction. This project was awarded the 2013 PCI Design Award Best Parking Structure (900+cars).
