P-116 Parking Structure at Lot H

Features

6-Level, 650-stall parking deck

Summary

Following the merger of Walter Reed National Medical Center with Bethesda Naval Hospital, the Bethesda campus experienced significant growth in the number of personnel assigned there.  As part of an overall program to meet the parking demand, this parking facility was developed for hospital employee parking.  The site and building design are sympathetic to the adjacent Navy Lodge, child care center, entertainment center, and Fisher House.

The parking structure consists of a precast, prestressed concrete superstructure supported on spread footings.  Exterior elements included structural precast concrete wall panels having a character similar to the older buildings on campus, galvanized steel vehicle barrier cables, and glass elements at the two stairs/elevator towers.  Other design elements included a parking guidance system which measures occupancy on a per-space basis, LED light fixtures with occupancy sensors, convenience water and electricity on all levels, a fire alarm system connected with the on-campus system, and a lightning protection system.  DESMAN served as Architect and Engineer of Record for this project delivered using the design/build format.
