South stadium Parking Garage - University of Arizona
Features
915 parking spaces on five levels. The location, massing, and height of the garage are sensitive to a nearby residential area.
Summary
The South Stadium Parking Garage was designed to accommodate hourly, daily, and special event parkers composed primarily of University of Arizona students and event patrons. The ramping system has been designed to accommodate event patrons at nearby Arizona Stadium, which will allow for the complete exiting of the facility within about thirty minutes.
This multi-story parking garage is located south of Arizona Stadium and east of the expanded Student Recreation Center and a new multi-purpose recreational field. There will be a primary bicycle/pedestrian path located between the garage and new recreation field for access to the main campus north of 6th Street. The garage features five levels, each three bays wide except for the top level which is two bays wide for sensitive building massing as a response to a nearby residential area. There is also a large landscape buffer between the garage and residential area to the south. The design considered site-specific guidelines, programming and visioning provided by the University of Arizona and is responsive to the new north end-zone revisions at Arizona Stadium.
Safety features include three emergency phones on each level, a parking/security office on the ground level, accommodations for security cameras, and long-span construction and no interior walls for an open design and enhanced visibility throughout the garage. DESMAN served as the Structural Engineer of Record and Parking Consultant for this project. Stephen Rebora, RA was the Principal-in-Charge for DESMAN and the garage was designed in our Chicago and Denver offices.
