Summary
This 5 level parking structure is designed to be the hub of a transportation center accommodating all modes of travel. It contains a lobby serving as the transit center with a glass-clad elevator tower and glass-backed elevator cabs transporting commuters from the upper-level parking tiers to the train platform. A highly articulated covered pedestrian bridge connects the lobby level to a grade level pedestrian access point in downtown Salem. The design incorporates FEMA flood criteria as the site is adjacent to the North River. The foundation design was unusually challenging due to the proximity to the river and required extensive investigation and design coordination. A management office is located on the ground floor adjacent to the main vehicular entry/exit point.
DESMAN served as Parking Consultant and Engineer of Record while working closely with Fennick McCredie Architects and their team which included Kleinfelder who provided site, civil and geotechnical engineering.
