Channel Center Parking Facility

Features

970 space, 9-level open parking structure.   Parking Access and Revenue Control System (PARCS) allows the garage to be self-operational.

Summary

The new Channel Center Parking Facility located in South Boston, Massachusetts is a 970 space, nine-level open parking structure serving the needs of the Fort Point neighborhood, the residents and employees within Channel Center, and the commuters. The garage became a necessity due to the State Street Garage closure and several roads that were limited to commercial vehicle parking only. The superstructure consists of precast, pre-stressed concrete. The parking garage was finished with an architectural facade along all sides that was made up of colored, perforated metal panels that are backlit during the evening. This extravagant exterior transformed the parking garage completely and it is seen as a beautiful landmark, instead of an eyesore. DESMAN recommended applying a Parking Access and Revenue Control System (PARCS) which allows the garage to be self-operational. This is helpful due to the fact that most of the users are monthly parkers, daily fee parkers, or special event parkers. The garage also features electric car charging stations available to transients. The Channel Center Garage received two awards from the IESNA, Illuminating Engineering Society: the Energy and Environmental Design Award and the Outdoor Lighting Design Award.
